As women, we tend to pick ourselves apart, we see out faults more than we see our worth and this often leads to lowered self-confidence. Negative self-talk is one of the most destructive things, self-talk has a huge impact on your wellbeing and this is the difference between looking in the mirror and being happy with what you see or not. Nourishing your mind is just as important as your body, you can be happy with the way you look and still live a healthy lifestyle and take care of yourself.

 

TELL YOURSELF YOU CAN!

Studies have found that negative self-talk negatively impacts exercise performance. I remember 11 years ago when my Dad took us on a holiday in France, we canoed down the Dordogne and camped at sites along the way. It was a great trip from what I remember but exhausting, I was 14 years old and had never really done much canoeing in my life. I still remember my Dad telling us all to chant “I can do this” and other positive quotes and it really does make an impact, we all had a great trip and it never seemed like work. It’s something that’s stuck with me for life and really helped me push through grueling workouts. So next time things get tough and you think you can’t get through, yes you can! You need to tell yourself that you can.

YOU VS YOU

Naturally, we follow people on social media who inspire us, so when we see their highlight reel (because it’s very rare people actually post their hard times and struggles on social media) we may compare ourselves to them. The only person you should compare yourself to is the person you were yesterday, sometimes when I feel like I’m not making progress as fast as I’d like, I think back to last year, when I realise how much I’ve developed as a person. Work every day on developing your mind, your health and also just on being a better person.

BE KIND TO YOURSELF

Practice self-love every day and you’ll notice a huge shift in your own happiness. Your relationships with others will improve and life will just become better as a result. Positive energy is contagious, but so is negative energy, positive people are more successful in life than negative people. Focus on your positives rather than your negatives. Being in a positive state of mind will be extremely productive in helping you to keep striving forward to reach your goals, and improve on the areas of your life you aren’t happy with.

BE EMPOWERING

I find I’m really happy when I’m helping others, this is part of the reason why I write this blog. To educate and empower others to make healthy lifestyle changes. So instead of tearing yourself and others down, lift them up. See how much better you feel when you’re making a positive difference in not just your own life but in the lives of those around you!
