High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has it all!

HIIT is a training method which alternates working at 100% maximum effort for short periods with recovery periods. It has so many benefits including improvement in athletic performance, faster rate of fat loss and improved glucose metabolism (breakdown of energy).


Accelerates fat loss

High Intensity workouts produce EPOC (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption) which means that your body has to take in extra oxygen to restore it to its resting state. Basically, EPOC increases the metabolic rate. Because of this, the fat burning carries on for up to 24 hours after your session ends.

A study used two groups of rats, one group worked at high intensity where the other worked at lower intensities, the findings showed that the rats  which worked at 80-90% of their HRmax (max heart rate) lost much more body fat compared to the rats which worked at 60-70% of their HRmax.

Increases Athletic Performance

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) has been shown to be an effective training method for improving endurance performance, including V02 max. HIIT can help increase speed, power, endurance. A good reason professional athletes incorporate HIIT into their workout routines is because it’s proven to improve athletic performance.
